Athletes graduate from our Rookie Academy around the time they enter second grade. At that time, they enter our Development Academy program, where we raise the hoops back up to their usual height, introduce a new practice type called Controlled Scrimmages, and begin breaking athletes up into what we call Program Phases.
While all athletes in Magic Elite spend time learning and practicing Magic’s Training Curriculum, the level of drill difficulty and coaches’ expectations changes from phases to phases, which ensures that athletes are being challenged at a level appropriate to their capabilities at any given time.
There are two ways that athletes promote from phase to phase. The first is by coaches’ recommendations, and the second is by way of quarterly promotion days where athletes can showcase their skills on a day dedicated to phase promotions.
Athletes that make their way through every Development Academy phase may be offered an opportunity to try out for Magic Elite’s Academy Teams. These are our tournament teams that practice together and play against other clubs in competitive environments.
